The Americas

Canada

October is the best time to visit Canada with the beautiful maple trees turning yellow, red and gold, it is a true spectacle for the eyes! Enjoy leaf peeping in the many national parks across all provinces or in the city parks. October is also an excellent time to see wildlife, you may encounter bears, mooses, elks, and various bird species in their natural habitats.

Fall is also a synonym of many harvest festivals so enjoy apple and pumpkin picking at local orchards and farms. This is also the chance to visit a farmers market and taste the local cuisine. In Canada, the second Monday in October is Thanksgiving which celebrates the harvest and other blessings of the past year. So be sure to be invited to a Thanksgiving dinner or book a delicious meal in a restaurant to mark the occasion.

October in Canada brings mild and comfortable weather. It's not too hot nor too cold, making it ideal for outdoor activities like hiking, biking, and exploring national parks. So pack your camera, cozy sweaters and your favourite fall looks because you will want to spend most of your time outside taking in the last positive temperatures before winter officially enters.

United States

by Emily from Journey by Backpack

When people think of visiting the USA, the likes of New York City, Florida and Las Vegas are often popular choices. However, the USA is home to 63 national parks and October is a fantastic time of year to visit these natural wonders.

Fewer crowds. Beautiful fall colors. Cooler temperatures. Cheaper costs. Empty hiking trails. Crisps fall mornings. It really doesn’t get much better than visiting a national park in October.

One of the best national parks to visit in October is Yosemite National Park in California. The crowds have departed, but the snow hasn’t quite covered the park yet meaning there are still ample opportunities to hike. In Yosemite Valley, you’ll be treated to some stunning fall foliage as the trees turn from green to golden. In the mountains, you’ll have quieter trails and perfect temperatures for hiking. You also might be lucky and catch a bear searching for its final meal before heading into hibernation for the winter.

Another epic destination for an October vacation is Utah. Utah is home to five stunning national parks known as ‘The Mighty Five’. This includes the famous Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon National Park

If fall foliage is what you’re after, it doesn’t get much better than Zion as the trees turn red, orange and gold lighting up the park. While in Zion, attempt one of the many world-class hiking trails including the famous Angel’s Landing to catch some of the best views of those fall colors.

Bryce Canyon is another epic fall vacation spot. Start your day by watching the famed sunrise from Sunrise Point, then hit the trails and do the famous Navajo Loop Trail followed by the Queen’s Garden Trail. With crisp days and fewer visitors, October is one of the best times of year to visit Bryce Canyon.

Mexico

by Julien from Cultures Traveled

Mexico tops the list of the best countries to visit in October for several reasons. To start, October marks the end of the rainy season for most areas of the country. Not only is less rain a plus for your daily travel plans, but it also leaves most of Mexico a lush wonderland that is perfect for exploring.

October is also one of several shoulder seasons in Mexico. The month falls after the busy summer holidays for domestic tourists and before the busy holiday season for both national and international tourism. This equates to fewer tourists, lower prices, and generally a more pleasant trip.

As a bonus, the end of October is also when Día de Muertos celebrations begin. So where in Mexico should you travel for this special cultural event? One of the most traditional is Day of the Dead in Oaxaca.

While the dates of Día de los Muertos fall at the very end of October and the beginning of November, in reality, the preparations begin much earlier. During the week or two before the Day of the Dead, Oaxaca City is awash in orange marigold flowers and other decorations. Families spend the days before creating an altar with flowers, candles, photographs, and the favorite foods of their deceased loved ones to encourage their spirits to visit.

On the night of October 31st, November 1st and 2nd they spend the nights in the cemeteries telling stories and reminiscing about their loved ones. Day of the Dead is generally a joyous time that celebrates life rather than mourns death.

Mexico is an incredibly vast and diverse country. The best time to visit varies by region, but as a whole, Mexico definitely ranks with the best countries to visit in October.

Peru

by Sharon from I Travel Peru

If you have always dreamt of visiting Machu Picchu and other unique places in Peru, October is a great time to do it.

A great advantage of traveling to Peru in October is that it is already past the peak of the high season, which is from June to August.  That means fewer crowds at the tourist sites and cheaper hotel and tour prices. While if you visit Machu Picchu during the peak season you might need to buy your tickets months in advance, giving you fewer chances for a last-minute trip, in October you won't have to worry about things like tickets or hotel availability.

October is right between the dry season and the beginning of the rainy season in Peru. The heavy rain will only come from December. That means that in October you will be able to experience some of the best outdoor activities in the country without much worries. You can hike, get clear views, enjoy the sun and make the most out of your day exploring Peru. It can be a great time to hike the Inca Trail, go trekking in Huaraz, wander around Cusco city, or just do a regular visit to Machu Picchu, with very low chances of rain. And unlike the drier months, which are the colder months in Peru, October is already warmer. In contrast with the months of heavy rains, the possibility of landslides blocking roads or railroad tracks is very low.

Are you more interested in cultural events rather than walking out in nature? Then don't miss the Señor de los Milagros (Lord of the Miracles) procession in Lima, which takes place every 28th of October, and join thousands of devotees dressed in purple around Lima's historic center.

Europe

Malta

Recommended by Alice from Adventures of Alice

Malta is a gorgeous island in the Mediterranean. It’s located underneath Sicily and above Africa, so it has fairly warm temperatures all year round (even in December, it’s still fairly toasty). October brings the perfect balance of warm weather and fewer crowds which makes for one of the best times to visit Malta.

Considering it’s such a small island, there are so many wonderful things to do in Malta. In October, you can still relax on the island's many beaches. You can expect temperatures of around 25°C during the day, so you can probably still catch a suntan! Just remember to bring a light jacket too as it can get a little chillier in the evenings.

As well as that, you can explore the historic temples, wander the cobbled old streets of Rabat, step back in time in Mdina, and take a boat trip to the Blue Grotto. It’s also well worth taking the ferry to Gozo if you visit Malta as you’ll find even more history, temples, and a stunning old church. There are also a few music festivals and events such as Defected Malta and The Notte Bianca, which are great if you enjoy a good party.

As the leaves change colour, you’ll also have a chance to see Malta’s autumn colours. Despite being mostly known as a beach destination, if you head to places like the Dingli Cliffs, Barrakka Gardens, and Buskett Gardens, you’ll find vibrant autumn foliage. If you’d like to experience both the coastal and the leafy side of Malta, a visit in October couldn’t be more perfect.

Belgium

By Stephanie from BeyOfTravel

Belgium, with its historic cities, renowned chocolate and waffles, and vibrant fall colours, is a splendid choice for a visit in October. As the European autumn unfolds, Belgium is bathed in warm hues of red and gold, providing a picturesque backdrop for exploration.

The temperatures throughout Belgium are moderately chilly and breezy. Be sure to pack a light cardigan and scarf including hiking boots to enjoy the lovely crisp weather. October is also perfect to beat the crowds in popular Belgian cities for sightseeing!

Begin your journey in Brussels, the country's capital. Visit the historic Grand Place, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its ornate guildhalls and impressive Gothic town hall. Don't miss the iconic Manneken Pis statue, and if you're a fan of surrealism, visit the René Magritte Museum.

In October, the Royal Greenhouses of Laeken in Brussels offer an exceptional sight, with the autumn light enhancing the beauty of their Art Nouveau style. For lovers of comic strips, a visit to the Belgian Comic Strip Center, housed in a magnificent Art Nouveau building, is a must.

Next, make your way to Bruges, a fairy-tale medieval town complete with cobblestone streets, canals, and well-preserved buildings. Visit the historic Belfry of Bruges, take a boat tour along the canals, and explore the Markt, a bustling square filled with cafes and horse-drawn carriages.

To capture fall foliage, visit the Hoge Kempen National Park in the region of Flanders, or go hiking through the Belgian Ardennes.

There are monthly/seasonal exhibitions and events all across Belgium in the month of October in which one can participate including concerts and film festivals such as the Ghent Film Festival, Rommelant (trade show in Antwerp), etc.

Belgium's gastronomy is also a highlight. October is the perfect time to indulge in Belgian chocolate, waffles, and beer. Visit a chocolaterie for a tasting experience or enjoy a hearty Belgian stew paired with a Trappist beer for a warming autumn meal.

Belgium in October offers an engaging blend of history, culture, and gastronomy, set against a beautiful autumnal landscape, making it an ideal destination in your European autumn tour.

Psst: I did an AMAZING chocolate and beer tour in Brussels, here is the link, you can thank me after ;)

Czechia

Written by Samantha Tatro of Undiscovered Path Home

Winding cobblestone roads, endless fall foliage and fewer tourists make Prague the most enchanting place to visit in October. The city's unique blend of Gothic architecture, rich history, and vibrant culture is beautiful any time of year, but it's especially charming when the leaves turn and the tourists head home.

October offers the perfect balance between tourist activity and local life. The summer crowds have dispersed, allowing you to explore the city's attractions with ease. Popular spots, like the Old Town Square, are less crowded, granting you the opportunity to fully immerse yourself in Prague's historic ambiance. Who doesn't like their photos with fewer people?

One of the best parts of visiting Prague in October is the fall foliage. Truly, no place does fall foliage like the Czech Republic. You can catch a lot of it in the city by visiting Stromovka or Petrin, but it's best experienced on a day trip from Prague. Places like Konopiste Castle or Karlstejn Castle are a short drive from Prague but offer some of the most spectacular fall colors.

Prague has a number of popular festivals during the fall, too. Each October, there are a number of local Oktoberfest celebrations. But the most popular local event in October has to be the Signal Festival. The festival brings unique projects, video mapping and installations to public spaces across Prague.

If you're visiting in October, keep in mind the weather can be all over the place. Daytime temperatures hover around 12-15°C (54-59°F), creating a comfortable atmosphere for outdoor activities. The city's iconic landmarks, such as the Prague Castle and Charles Bridge, seem even more captivating against the backdrop of clear blue skies and autumn foliage. However, be warned: it does rain from time to time, so pack a rain jacket.

England

by Lowri from Many Other Roads

If you’re looking for the ultimate fall getaway, look no further than Wales in the UK. October in Wales is a magical time with its stunning views and vibrant colours - coupled with fewer crowds compared to other destinations, it's the perfect place for your next vacation.

The Welsh countryside is especially picturesque during this time of year, and there are plenty of places to explore and take in the autumnal sights. Snowdonia National Park is a great spot to admire the changing foliage. Another great spot is the Brecon Beacons which looks stunning during the fall months.

The weather in Wales doesn’t change much all year round but it does rain a lot. So make sure you bring a raincoat as umbrellas don’t survive in the wind there. And there are so many amazing places to stay and visit if you want to see nature but they are usually in more remote locations. Getting the train and bus is fairly straightforward but I do highly recommend renting a car.

And if you're looking for something extra special, there are lots of activities in Wales this time of year. Pumpkin picking is a great way to get into the spirit of fall, and there are plenty of locations where you can do it - such as the pumpkin patch at Pantglas Farm in Pembrokeshire. Plus, if you're looking for something extra spooky, there are witch broom-making workshops available all around the country too so is a great destination for Halloween lovers!

England is one of the best countries in Europe in October because it perfects the cozy autumn feeling we're all in search of at that time. From stunning golden foliage to cottage core aesthetics in the countryside, England has it all in October.

October in England can be a changeable month in terms of weather. It will likely be chilly, and you must always be prepared for rain in this country. But there are also gloriously sunny days that light up the changing leaves. It is a quieter time for tourism, so London is not so busy and it's also the perfect time to go further afield to places like Cambridge or the Cotswolds.

There are so many wonderful places to enjoy London in the fall. Regent's Canal is lined with orange trees creating a beautiful autumnal scene. Follow it to Regent's Park to enjoy the free outdoor exhibition Frieze Sculpture. Richmond Park and Hampton Court Palace provide epic seasonal views and historic significance.

The autumn academic vibes are at their height in Oxford and Cambridge, the perfect cities for wandering streets lined with stunning architecture or going punting down their respective rivers. In the Cotswolds, the charming villages and rolling hills create postcard-worthy scenes. Stopping at a tearoom to enjoy scones and tea is even better with that October nip in the air.

There's so much to see and enjoy in England in October--don't miss it!

Psst: I did a great afternoon bus tour around London, click here to know more about it.

Croatia

By Olivia from Inspired by Croatia

Croatia in October is a surprisingly dreamy escape from the otherwise crowded tourist season. As the intense heat of summer mellows out, and the throngs of travelers return home, the country transforms into a relaxing Mediterranean paradise. The weather is cooler, and while swimming might be off the table, visitors will gain access to the country's most famous sites without having to rub shoulders with other travelers.

Think strolling the ancient streets of Diocletian’s Palace in Split without the constant buzz of tourists, and actually being able to feel the weight of history in its corners and corridors. Imagine wandering through the romantic seaside town of Rovinj and savoring the charming Old Town with no one blocking your view.

And it's not only the historic sites that beckon. The cafes and restaurants, usually teeming with visitors in the busy season, have a relaxed and easygoing atmosphere. This is the time when you can leisurely sip on Croatian wines at a seafront bistro, or enjoy a macchiato like a local, all while soaking in the scenic beauty without any rush.

But the true highlight of Croatia in October has to be Plitvice Lakes National Park. As fall rolls in, the park undergoes a magical transformation. The colors of autumn paint the landscape in warm hues of red and gold making for some truly spectacular scenery. It’s the perfect time to explore the park’s many hiking paths, marvel at its incredible waterfalls, and take a boat ride across its tranquil lakes.

Finally, the affordability factor during the month of October cannot be ignored. Prices are significantly lower than during the peak summer season, so it’s a great time to explore Croatia’s more expensive destinations like Dubrovnik on a budget.

Greece

By Mal of Raw Mal Roams

Greece may not be globally renowned for its fall foliage like some other destinations, but there are other fantastic reasons why you should visit Greeve in October.

October is an ideal time to visit Greece, particularly for travellers eager to experience Greek islands’ iconic destinations like Santorini. During this month, you'll find accommodation rates significantly reduced- sometimes by up to 50% compared to peak summer months. This makes it possible to enjoy a stay in a high-end Santorini hotel with a caldera view without breaking the bank.

For travellers seeking a more peaceful experience, October is a fantastic month to visit Greece. The reduced foot traffic in October allows you a more intimate experience with Greece's most cherished landmarks.
Imagine having more room to breathe as you stroll through the winding streets of Oia in Santorini or taking unhurried selfies at the Acropolis in Athens. Even Meteora, with its monasteries perched atop towering rocks, feels more mystical without the distraction of large tour groups.

If you're aiming for pleasant weather without the extreme heat of summer, October in Greece offers mild weather, typically ranging from 17 to 25 degrees Celsius.

The mild temperatures make outdoor activities and sightseeing much more enjoyable. You can hike the Samaria Gorge in Crete without breaking too much of a sweat or leisurely explore the ancient ruins of Delphi without the relentless sun bearing down on you. The cooler evenings are ideal for waterfront dining in places like Mykonos, where you can savour fresh seafood as the sun sets.

While October in Greece isn't overflowing with major festivals, it does have its own unique charms when it comes to events. The most notable is "Ochi Day", on October 28th, a patriotic celebration marked by parades and festivities across the nation. And if you're a wine aficionado, the end of the grape harvest season could coincide with local wine festivals.

Slovenia

by Jill on Journey

Slovenia is one of those countries in Europe that has been untroubled by mass tourism so far. Even though it has stunning lakes, rivers, and a small but lovely Mediterranean coast. However, it is becoming a more and more popular travel destination, especially during the summer months. That's why October is the perfect time to visit Slovenia and have an authentic experience without any crowds.

The weather in October is still mild, with around 15-20 °C (60-68 °F) and lots of sunny days – perfect for hikes in Vintgar Gorge or in the Soca Valley. Here you can enjoy the blue water and dive into the stunning Slovenian nature. But you can also spend days by the lakeside of Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj and the Mediterranean Sea.

Besides, you can see the leaves starting to fall which turns the capital, Ljubljana, into a very gorgeous autumn paradise. It's a small capital with cobbled alleys, lots of cafés and great restaurants. October turns Ljubljana into a golden fairy tale setting. The cafés tend to have heaters in their outdoor areas, so you can still sit outside and watch the hustle and bustle with a coffee in hand.

The best way to see the country's diversity is during a road trip in Slovenia. This way, you can easily reach all the lovely regions and have the best October holiday in Europe.

Psst: Slovenia is one of my favourite countries to visit, you can check out our multiple posts on the country.

Hungary

Recommend by Tina from Veganderlust

Fall is a great time to visit Hungary, as you can admire the beautiful fall foliage and attend some great festivals.

The most visited places in Hungary are the country’s capital, Budapest, and Lake Balaton. And for good reason! Budapest is an amazing, still somewhat underrated city and Lake Balaton offers a beautiful glimpse into Hungary’s gorgeous countryside.

In September, it’s usually still sunny and warm in Hungary, with temperatures up to 23C. Lake Balaton, which is the largest freshwater lake in Central Europe, is a great place for one last bathing holiday before winter approaches. You can go for a swim in the relatively shallow lake, visit some wineries in the surrounding area, and admire the leaves changing color.

The end of September is the beginning of the Budapest Autumn Festival, a two-week-long festival for contemporary art with different art exhibitions and concerts all over Hungary’s capital.

In October, the temperatures fall down to between 8C to 16C. Good temperatures to go for a stroll next to the Danube River and admire the stunning Hungarian Parliament Building.

And in November when the temperatures fall down to about 9C, it’s the perfect time to explore Budapest’s thermal baths. There are multiple natural hot springs in Budapest, and they’re the perfect place to warm up after exploring the city. The thermal water is supposed to have healing properties. If soaking in thermal water isn’t enough, there are even some places you can buy thermal water to drink in Budapest. It’s a very unique taste and drinking thermal water is also supposed to have health benefits.

Whether you’re looking for one last holiday soaking in the sun and going for swims, or you want to defy the colder temperatures in some hot thermal water, Hungary has it all. It’s a great country to visit in fall.

Albania

by Tamara from My Elated Odyssey

If you’re looking for a great country to visit in October, head to Albania! This Balkan country is an excellent option for the fall month due to its versatile landscape offering beach, mountain, and urban city activities.

Albania is a great choice to escape the gradually cold temperatures in Europe at this time of year. The average temperatures for the country reach a high of 23°C (74°F), and a low of 14°C (57°F). Of course, the mountainous regions will be chillier than the coastal areas.

Another benefit of visiting the country in October is that this month falls during the shoulder season. Like other Balkan countries, you can enjoy sightseeing and attractions with fewer crowds and lower accommodation costs. On average, it rains for about 11 days in October, providing plenty of sunny days for outdoor activities.

One of the best and still lively coastal destinations to visit during this time is Saranda. While the weather won’t have the summer heat, you can still enjoy a few beach days, the nightlife, and the attractions around the main promenade. Additionally, you can take a day trip to the nearby Corfu island by ferry, a popular tourist choice.

While there are no official holidays in October, you’ll find fall decor and a few celebrations in anticipation of Halloween. In addition, the capital, Tirana, holds the best events during October. Some events worth attending are shows hosted in Skanenberg Square, the Tirana Half Marathon, and the Automotive Fair.

If seeing fall foliage was on your list, you can also find that in Albania! A few of the best destinations to see the stunning autumn colors are Mt. Dajti National Park, Shebenik National Park, and Qafshtama National Park.

Iceland

By Steve from Maps Over Coffee

Anyone who has been to Iceland will attest to its incredible natural wonders. And while it is beautiful any time of year, October is one of our favorite months to visit.

First I should address the weather; it is rainy and cool…ok, it can get cold. But not as frigid as you might think. By comparison, the average temperature in Iceland is around 10°-15°F cooler than the northeast of the United States.

But if you are prepared for cooler days and chilly nights, you’ll find that there are way fewer crowds than during peak season. In fact, this is one of the best reasons to visit Iceland in October. It is rare to find so many pristine landscapes shared by so few people.

It can be argued that the natural wonders are at the peak of beauty. With the increase in rain, the waterfalls are in full effect! Everywhere you look, there are cascades of all sizes that make every drive or hike even more spectacular.

And, although not known for its vast forest, there are parts of Iceland that are brimming with birch and aspen trees. The hues of oranges and yellows seem to pop in the gray skies. But beyond the trees, the small shrubs and even the moss will change color. It is a photographer’s paradise!

And finally, there are the Aurora Borealis. The Northern Lights are all but invisible during the long summer days. They can be seen nearly all winter long, but the weather is just too cold to spend much time outside.

But in October, you have longer nights without being too uncomfortably cold to enjoy the display. In fact, Iceland’s fall weather makes it the perfect time of year to watch this amazing phenomenon.  While there are plenty of guest houses, hotels, and hostels, to keep warm, Iceland is an ideal camping destination even as late as October.

So pack your bags! Come to Iceland in the fall. It will be an unforgettable experience!

Turkey

Recommended by Soumya of Stories by Soumya

If you’re looking for the best places to visit in October, then Turkey is a great choice.

The seaside towns and beaches on the Aegean Coast of Turkey are still warm and sunny in October. Temperatures range between 65°F - 77°F which is perfect for exploring the towns of Alacati and Cesme that have a distinct Greek feel to them.

Bigger cities like Istanbul, Bursa, and Ankara are less crowded than in the summer and full of wonderful things to do. It is the best time to explore the cultural attractions of these places. The weather in October is perfect for hiking in the valleys of Cappadocia, visiting the open-air museums of Ephesus and Hierapolis, or heading to the beautiful Princes Islands for a short getaway from Istanbul.

If there’s a bit of rain as there will be, feel free to step into the numerous mosques, museums, bazaars, and underground cisterns of Turkey. Tours and accommodation are cheaper because October is the beginning of the shoulder season in Turkey. With the summer crowds back home, you’re sure to land some great deals.

October is also the month of festivals in Turkey, especially in Istanbul. The beginning of October sees the celebration of the Akbank Jazz Festival which lasts for ten days and attracts jazz fans from all over the world. Istanbul also plays host to the International Puppet Festival where puppeteers from several countries flock to celebrate their art.

The people of Turkey celebrate the Turkish Republic Day on the 29th of October every year with festivities and shows happening throughout the country. Do not miss out on the fireworks over Bosphorus if you’re in Istanbul on that day.

Portugal

Recommended by Sydney of Sydney to Anywhere

Portugal is one of the best countries to visit in October because you'll get the chance to visit the stunning Douro Valley wineries during harvest season.

Northern Portugal is incredibly beautiful and cozy when fall approaches, the quaint cobblestone streets lighting up with vibrant autumn hues. The weather at this time of year is mild and pleasant, typically ranging from 55-65 degrees Fahrenheit. It's ideal conditions for both exploration and relaxation.

Visiting the Douro Valley during harvest time is a special experience. This region, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the birthplace of Port Wine and its landscapes are dotted with gorgeous terraced vineyards. Fall weather is ideal for a trip to this region. In the summer, temperatures can reach over 100 degrees Fahrenheit! Though the winters are mild, the naked vines just don't offer the same lovely scenery.

Participating in the grape harvest is a must for anyone who loves wine! In October, you could get the chance to tread grapes in traditional granite lagares, just as it was done centuries ago. Other great things to do include taking a river cruise in a Rabelo boat down the Douro River, wine-tasting tours, and exploring the historic towns of Lamego and Peso da Régua.

Traveling in October also helps to avoid big crowds. Visiting during the shoulder season lets you go at a more leisurely pace. In Douro Valley, you'll find that winemakers around the area have more time to connect and answer your questions.

Plus, the weather is cooling off in October which means it’s time for the Portuguese to start fixing their traditional stews like Cozida a Portuguesa, a hearty blend of meat and veggies slow-cooked to perfection.

With pleasant weather, gorgeous fall foliage, and unique harvest activities, a trip to Douro Valley, Portugal in October is an absolute must!

Scotland

by Jess from Uprooted Traveler

Scotland is an incredible country, with a dynamic landscape, friendly locals, and plenty of fairytale cities to explore.

October is a lovely time to visit, with daily highs in the mid-50s and lows in the lower 40s and clearer skies than the endlessly wet winters. But still, come prepared with a rain jacket—it’s still Scotland, after all!

Additionally, you’ll get to enjoy some of its most popular destinations, like Edinburgh and the Isle of Skye, with just a fraction of the visitors you’d see in the busy summer months. School is back in session and locals are generally preparing for the long, dark winter ahead—leaving most of the country’s best gems for you to explore without all of the crowds.

Although Scotland is renowned for its evergreen forests, the country still offers some beautiful autumn colors, especially amongst the deciduous trees in the Highlands. For example, Cairngorms National Park is an excellent place to see the famed rolling hills of the country turn flaming colors of gold, burnt orange, and scarlet.

If you want to lean into October’s spooky vibes, consider stopping at the Devil’s Pulpit, an unusual hike that takes you into a mossy gorge and to the banks of a blood-red stream. While the eerie appearance of the water is due to the reddish hue of the gorge’s sandstone, there are still lots of local legends about witches and Druids meeting here.

For something a bit more on the whimsical side, October may be a good time to enjoy the country’s ties to Harry Potter. For example, Edinburgh is home to many of the spots that allegedly inspired J.K. Rowling as she was writing the series, including Edinburgh Castle, which is rumored to be the basis of Hogwarts and the colorful businesses along Victoria Street, which is believed to have inspired Diagon Alley.

France

by Eleanor of Elevate Your Escapes

France is a fantastic country to visit in October. In Paris, the high-season crowds have dispersed by October. Travelers can visit top attractions, like the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, the Champs Élysées, and Galleries Lafayette, much more comfortably than in the high season. While there will almost always be a steady stream of tourism in Paris, queues will be much shorter. And, visitors can take advantage of off-season rates at hotels. October is an ideal time to visit Versailles, as well. You’ll be able to explore the palace and grounds without crowds, and you can appreciate the fall colors throughout the gardens.

October is a great time to visit wine regions of Europe, including those in Portugal, Spain, and France. The Loire Valley is a terrific place to visit in autumn, especially because of the incredible foliage. See areas such as Chinon, Chambord, Chenonceau, Villandry, and Chateau de Langeais. Visitors will be enchanted with the countryside and miles of vineyards. The grapes are mostly picked in September and October here. Taste top wine like Sancerre. Then, go visit some of the incredible castles of the region. Chateau de Chambord is a favorite.

The Champagne region and the incredible city of Reims are perfect to visit in October. See the unbelievable Cathedral while you're there. La Maison Pommery is one of the most recognized houses and cellars of Reims. Visitors can partake in several tours and activities, like cellar tours, a self-guided walk of Villa Demoiselle, tastings, and gastronomic experiences.

France has a top-notch food scene. Travelers can experience notable cuisine featuring autumnal foods like mushrooms, chestnuts, apples, pears, grapes, carrots, turnips, and beets.  October weather is largely dependent on which area of France you’re visiting, but expect cool sunny days in most of the country, with temperatures dipping to coat weather in the evening. During the day, it’s comfortable to have a coffee at an outdoor café.

Spain

Submitted by Cristina of My Little World of Travelling

Spain is a fantastic country to visit during the fall. It is diverse, so you can still enjoy a beach holiday in places like the Canary Islands or fall temperatures and activities in central or Northern Spain.

If you would like a combination of warm weather with fall activities, Malaga in October is a good option. You can still soak up the sun but also go on hiking trails like La Concha or Bosque de Cobre (The Cooper Forest), known for its beautiful fall foliage.

October in Spain is much quieter than the summer months; however, that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of events. For example, you can attend Las Fiestas del Pilar in Zaragoza and Fiestas de San Froilán in Lugo. Another important date in October is the 12th of October, as this is Spain’s National Day. If you are in the country on that date, be aware that many businesses are closed. It is a day to spend with family and friends, visit a park, walk on the beach promenade or have a meal out.

October is an excellent month to travel to Spain because it is possible to find cheaper flights and accommodations, but if you come from countries like the UK, avoid the last week of October as prices increase during the school holidays.

Halloween isn’t a significant event in Spain like in the US, but many Spaniards have adapted some traditions and celebrate Halloween. There are mainly events for children, but you can also find Halloween parties at nightclubs.

One of the best places to visit in Spain during Halloween is Soportujar in Granada. This mountainside village is known as the witches’ village. Expect to see witches, dragons and other supernatural sculptures and spooky decorations

Italy is a fantastic destination to visit in October and it offers a unique and delightful experience during autumn.

Italy is one of the most popular places in Europe and It often becomes sweltering and overcrowded during the summer months. However, October in Italy presents a refreshing change, with fewer tourists and a more inviting atmosphere for exploration.

You can stroll through Italy's most beautiful cities like Rome, Milan, and Florence without the bustling tourist rush. This is the kind of serenity October brings to Italy's popular tourist spots. With fewer crowds, you can immerse yourself in the rich history, art, and culture that define these cities.

The weather in Italy during October is generally pleasant. While it can vary depending on the region, you can expect mild temperatures, with daytime highs ranging from 15°C to 23°C (59°F to 73°F). Morocco

by Heather from Conversant Traveller

October is the best time to visit Morocco, especially if it's your first time in the country. The intense heat of the summer has died down, but the cooler winter weather is yet to make an appearance. Days are warm with highs of 29°C, while the evenings are fresher – good news for getting a decent night's sleep.

This all means that October temperatures are perfect for visiting the whole country, from the southern deserts to the northern coasts. You can go hiking in the High Atlas Mountains without having to contend with snow and enjoy city sightseeing in Fes and Marrakech without melting. October brings to life the Morocco that you read about in books, with picture-postcard scenery and plenty of outdoor adventures to be had. There isn't much rain in October either, so you can still go out and about in your summer clothing.

It's not too crowded in October either, making it easier to haggle your way around the souks or book onto a last-minute bivouac and camel trek down in the Sahara. Reserving accommodation ahead is still advisable, especially in popular places like Marrakech, but there will always be somewhere available in October if you prefer to be a little more spontaneous.

For fall foliage, head up to Ifrane National Park in the Middle Atlas Mountains. This is one of the best places in the country to see the changing tree colours, and there are some great hikes in this area. If you fancy experiencing something a bit different, October is also when the Erfoud Date Festival is held, down in the Saharan Desert. You can see the dates being harvested, join in with local festivities and of course get to sample the famous Mejoul dates for yourself. Expect lots of dancing, music and even camel racing.

Tanzania

Tanzania is one of the best countries to visit in October! From spectacular wildlife safaris, unforgettable beach beach experiences, and indescribable chimpanzee treks, October is the ideal time to be in Tanzania.

This East African country is home to the continent’s highest mountain and the deepest lake. And of course the childhood residence of Freddie Mercury. It’s most famous, though, as a utopia for anyone who loves wildlife and nature.

In Tanzania, you’ll find one of the largest concentrations of animal species in the world. Its national parks, such as the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater, are teeming with more than 14,000 species of animals.

During October in Tanzania, the end of the dry season is approaching - the best time for an epic safari. The iconic wildlife is easiest to spot now because animals converge around the few remaining water sources. Whether you're an avid birdwatcher or a fan of the big cats, the opportunities for wildlife spotting in October are extraordinary.

Plus, if you travel south to Gombe National Park, you’ll get the chance to observe troops of chimpanzees in the wild. This is where famous naturalist Jane Goodall conducted her groundbreaking research, and walking in her footsteps is indescribable.

October is one of the easiest months to track the chimpanzees. The apes stick to the hills’ lower slopes, significantly decreasing the amount of searching that’s required to spot them.

This same amazing country is also home to the tropical paradise of Zanzibar. Known as the magical Spice Islands, Zanzibar boasts the historic, picturesque Stone Town - a UNESCO World Heritage Site - countless activities and dozens of beaches. And the boyhood home of Queen frontman Freddy Mercury. It’s also a sunbather’s, snorkeler's, and diver’s dream.

October means the best chance of perfect conditions in Zanzibar - cool breezes and clear skies, warm seas and calm waters. In short, Tanzania is one of the best countries to visit in October. This is when its stunning landscapes, exhilarating wildlife encounters, and gorgeous beaches put on a show that you’d be crazy to miss out on.

South Africa

by Hannah from Mariée Travel

There’s a lot to love about South Africa. As a sprawling destination, this is a country that has so much to offer and promises a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Thanks to its size, South Africa has a few different climates but October is one of the best times to visit!

If you want to travel to the Western Cape, October is great for Cape Town. As October marks spring, the weather is mild at around 70ºF and generally dry so it’s ideal for exploring the best of the city. You’ll also avoid the crowds that arrive in November making it a good time for visiting Camps Bay or the penguins at Boulders Beach.

For those wanting to escape the city, October is also excellent for enjoying the scenery of Cape Winelands. With its rolling vineyards and majestic mountainous backdrop, this region is gloriously romantic so it's perfect if you’re planning a luxury vacation or honeymoon to South Africa. It’s also easy to reach from Cape Town and makes a lovely overnight stay – you’ll be treated to the dreamiest accommodation! Plus, in October, you’ll find pleasant weather instead of the high heat of summer.

A safari is obviously a must in South Africa and October is a great month to tick it off your bucket list! South Africa has some of the best game viewing on the continent and, with so many reserves and national parks, you’ll be spoiled for choice when deciding where to go.

In the northeast of the country, Kruger is the most famous park and is one of the best places to spot the Big 5. Considered one of the best months to visit, in October you’ll avoid the heavy summer rains and have a good chance of spotting animals gathered around water sources.

The game reserves and parks like Addo Elephant Park in South Africa’s Eastern Cape are also brilliant in October. This part of the country is considered a year-round safari destination so you’ll be blessed with opportunities. It’s a perfect choice for an unforgettable vacation!

Asia

Singapore

By Karen from Forever Karen

By visiting Singapore in October, you’ll enjoy fewer crowds, slightly cooler weather, lower prices, and one of the coolest airports globally – Changi International Airport. Singapore is just 85 miles north of the Equator, so expect temperatures of 32C or 90F. Unlike countries in the northern and southern hemispheres, Singapore doesn’t experience seasons. It’s either hot or hotter! So, you won’t see fall foliage.

While October brings the rain, showers don’t last long and help to keep the temperatures more tolerable. All that rain provides for lush gardens. So, be sure to visit the Singapore Botanic Gardens, Chinese and Japanese Gardens, and Gardens by the Bay.

The Gardens by the Bay features its famous Supertree Grove and two indoor gardens. The Cloud Forest, the smallest dome, features the world’s tallest indoor waterfall. However, the Flower Dome’s exhibit changes with the seasons, making it more attractive to tourists and locals.

Singapore celebrates the Nine Emperor Gods Festival at the Leong Nam Temple in October. This Chinese Taoist event, which usually lasts nine days, is an important religious event in southeast Asia. The festival honors nine celestial emperors to gain their blessings.

Rituals include vegetarianism, processions, and prayers. The festival ends with a grand send-off for the gods, which gathers a crowd along the waterfront.

While a small country, Singapore is a melting pot of heritage. With Little India, Chinatown, and Kampong Glam, you can explore contrasting cultures filled with mosques, temples, and a fantastic selection of street food. Located in a compact area, you can enjoy these spots on self-guided walking tours.

Chinatown has some fantastic wall murals and numerous Hawker Centers selling inexpensive eats. Who can resist the classic Hainanese chicken, roasted duck, chilli crab, or oyster omelet?

Thailand

Written by Louisa Smith, Travel Thailand Together

If you’re looking for a tropical destination in Southeast Asia to visit in October, then look no further than Thailand. October is at the end of the rainy season, and just before the peak tourist season, which makes it the perfect time to visit.

While you may get a few days of rain, typically October is dry, especially in the north of Thailand such as Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. Temperatures on average hover between 29ºC and 30ºC, which is the perfect temperature for exploring Thailand’s many landmarks. It's a great time to explore the stunning beaches, trek through lush jungles, or visit historical temples without worrying about heavy rainfall all through the day.

It’s also when the jungles are the most lively and vibrant since they’ve just had a three-month drink from the rain showers. Be sure to visit Khao Sok National Park and see the jungle come to life after the heavy rains have passed.

Compared to the peak tourist months, October tends to be quieter in terms of crowds, which also means, cheaper prices. This means you can have a more relaxed and authentic experience, whether you're exploring bustling cities or tranquil islands, while still benefiting from the off-season prices.

It’s even possible for hotels to offer deals during the month of October, such as “Buy Two Nights Get The Third Free,” and you can also expect tour operators to compete for your business and offer cheaper deals compared to prices in November - February. October is also when the vegetarian festival known as Nine Emperor Gods takes place in Phuket, which is the perfect time to try some unique flavors and authentic Thai cuisine.

If you visit in October, be sure to stay for November too, which is when the Yi Peng Lantern Festival in Chiang Mai is held. This is where thousands of lanterns are released into the sky, creating a breathtaking sight.

South Korea

by Carryn from Torn Tackies Travel Blog

South Korea is a country with a rich culture and fascinating history. It also boasts delicious street food, spectacular nature, and quirky cafes. October is the best (and most beautiful) month to visit Korea. The days are sunny and warm with little to no rainfall. The overnight temperatures are slightly cooler, yet comfortable. But arguably the best part of visiting Korea in October? The Autumn Foliage. The landscapes are filled with autumn colors and it’s a great time to get out and explore the countryside.

Some of the best things to do in South Korea during October include hiking through one of the many national parks. My favorites are Bukhansan National Park in Seoul and Seoraksan National Park in Sokcho.

Jeju Island, which was named one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature, is also a spectacular place to visit in October. It’s home to Mount Hallasan (the highest mountain in Korea) as well as Seongsan Ilchulbong which is an extinct volcano.

There are many festivals that take place in October and you can expect a fun and festive atmosphere throughout the country. These include the Jinju Lantern Festival, the Busan Film Festival and the Seoul Fireworks Show.

Because of the ideal temperatures for outdoor activities, October is a busy month for domestic travel in Korea. Many local families head outside to make the most of the warm days, but it never feels overcrowded.

Japan

by Tom from Trekking the Dream

October is an ideal time to visit Japan with comfortable, pleasant weather replacing the scorching summer heat, perfect for outdoor activities and sightseeing across this beautiful country. Visitors to Japan in October will also be treated to a stunning array of colours as the foliage turns from green to breathtaking hues of red, orange and yellow. Kyoto, Nikko and Hokkaido are particularly famous for their autumn foliage, providing fantastic photo opportunities and a serene atmosphere for nature enthusiasts.

October is the perfect month to experience Japanese culture and traditions with many events including the colourful and lively Koyo Festival and the Takayama Autumn Festival in Hida Takayama. You can
immerse yourself in local customs and try some of the many delicious, classic Japanese specialty foods such as sushi and sashimi.
The bounty of seasonal food continues with mouthwatering dishes like matsutake mushrooms and sanma (Pacific saury); don't forget to sample some freshly harvested chestnuts and sweet potatoes from street vendors.

A major advantage of visiting Japan in October is the reduced crowds. Unlike the peak tourist seasons of spring and summer. October offers a more relaxed and peaceful experience at all of the popular tourist
spots. You can explore famous attractions like Tokyo, Osaka, and Hiroshima without the hassle of long lines and overcrowded streets. As the temperatures start to dip, it is the perfect time to soak in one of Japan's many therapeutic onsens (hot springs). Relax in an outdoor bath surrounded by the stunning autumn scenery, and feel your worries melt away.

October in Japan is a symphony of colours, culture, and culinary delights. Whether you're an avid nature enthusiast, a history buff, or a food lover, Japan in October promises an unforgettable experience. You
are sure to leave with cherished memories and a deep appreciation for this enchanting country.

Indonesia

by Victoria from Guide Your Travel

Indonesia is undoubtedly one of the best countries to visit in October, offering a unique blend of natural beauty, cultural festivities, and pleasant weather, making it a unique destination this month.

One of the primary reasons why Indonesia stands out in October is its spectacular cultural events. During this time, Bali, one of the country's most popular tourist destinations, hosts the Galungan and Kuningan festivals. These Hindu celebrations mark the victory of good over evil, with beautifully decorated temples, traditional dances, and offerings adorning the streets. It's a fantastic opportunity to immerse yourself in the rich Balinese culture.

The weather in Indonesia during October is delightful. With the rainy season yet to fully kick in, you can expect warm temperatures and lower humidity levels, making it perfect for outdoor exploration. The beaches, lush jungles, and ancient temples are all at their prime, offering travelers an ideal setting to explore the country's diverse landscapes. And enjoy a relaxing weekend on the island of  Gili Trawangan.

Crowds in October are generally thinner compared to the peak tourist season. You can enjoy popular attractions without the hassle of large groups, allowing for a more relaxed and enjoyable experience. Plus, accommodations and flights are more affordable, making visiting an economical time.

While Indonesia may not experience the traditional fall foliage that some countries do, its natural beauty is ever-present. Lush green rice terraces, dense rainforests, and vibrant flowers create a colorful and picturesque landscape throughout the year.

Philippines

by Gladis from Happiness On The Way

Imagine your ideal getaway – warm weather, vibrant festivals, and breathtaking landscapes. Experience all these with lesser crowds during October in the Philippines.

October is a shoulder season. The rain comes to an end, leaving warm (but not hot) weather with average highs reaching around 29°C (85°F) and lows staying around 24°C (76°F). While rain is possible, it's much less likely than before. Plus, hotel prices are a lot cheaper during this period.

During this time, you'll see the country's green landscape. It's the best time to hike lush mountains, see waterfalls, and enjoy pristine beaches. Locals are not traveling around so much because rain is still possible so you'll have these destinations with lesser crowds.

October also kicks off the festival season with the famous MassKara Festival, featuring street parties, parades, and colorful costumes. But that's just the beginning – there's also the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival, Kasanggayahan Festival, and even a Filipino-style Oktoberfest.

It's also the best time to enjoy famous beaches like Boracay, one of the world's best beaches. It's less crowded because there's still some rain. The little rain also brings winds which are perfect for Boracay water activities like wind and kite surfing and even scuba diving.

Enjoy the festivities but stay flexible with your travel plans. Tropical regions can have unpredictable weather, so check local forecasts and adapt your plans as needed.

Enjoy the Philippines in its quiet season. It's a traveler's dream come true, offering the perfect blend of culture, adventure, and relaxation – all against the backdrop of a nation coming alive in vivid colors and vibrant celebrations.

Uzbekistan

by Raksha from Solo Passport

Located in Central Asia, Uzbekistan is rich in history and culture. Playing a huge and important role in the Silk Route (trade route between China and the Mediterranean), there are plenty of things you can do in the country that involve experiencing local traditions and culture. Be it seeing the massive mausoleums or learning about their history at museums, the tourists have everything to have a complete holiday experience. You will need at least a week to enjoy what the country can offer.

The best time to visit Uzbekistan is during the spring (April and May) and autumn (September to November) seasons. With cool weather and the autumn season in October, Uzbekistan is an ideal place to travel as the country is painted with dark red and gold colours. Uzbekistan looks the prettiest with trees changing shades and adding more colours to the already colourful country. The temperature ranges between 10 to 20 degrees centigrade during the autumn season where the days are warm, and nights are cool. Ensure to carry a light jacket for the evenings.

As this is the end of peak season even though it is the best time to visit, you will find a smaller number of tourists traveling in the country when compared to other times during the peak season. However, you may still find a considerable number of tourists in Samarkand, Bukhara, and Khiva as they are the must-visit places during the autumn season.

During October, the country also celebrates many festivals such as the National Souvenir Festival at Bukhara and the International Crafts Festival at Kokand, that embrace the country's arts and crafts during October. With beautiful handicrafts and local products, the souvenirs in Uzbekistan are unique, colourful and spectacular. As Uzbekistan is one of the cheapest countries to travel, the festivals are perfect to indulge in shopping experiences.

Taiwan

by Emilie from Emixglobe

The beautiful island of Taiwan truly shines bright when October comes around. As the entire island enters the month of October, you’ll find yourself surrounded by the most beautiful sceneries with the most pleasant weather.

October marks the end of the blazing summer in Taiwan, as the lower temperatures and cooler winds start to seep through. The weather will become just perfect enough to spend all day outside and explore many outdoor destinations, such as the enchanting historic streets of Lukang, which are way too hot to explore during the scorching hot summers of Taiwan. These streets will now be ready to be discovered at your own leisurely pace.

Also, October is the end of the Mid-Autumn Festival, which typically spans from mid to late September. But don’t worry, just because it’s at the end doesn’t mean the festivities have concluded! You’ll still be able to indulge in the most delicious mooncakes and watch the prettiest lantern displays and shows all around the streets here.

Furthermore, if you’re an outdoor hiking enthusiast, October is a great time to visit many illustrious mountains and national parks, such as Alishan and Taroko Gorge, around Taiwan. Both of them offer stunning views and hiking trails of varying difficulties for hikers of all levels and the refreshing weather in October makes for just the perfect time to visit all of these destinations around Taiwan.

Overall, Taiwan is a great destination to visit in October for its comfortable weather, breathtaking scenery, and a multitude of cultural attractions. Lastly, don't miss the chance to try authentic bubble tea while you're in Taiwan!

Vietnam

By Karen of Outdoor Adventure Sampler

Vietnam is an excellent country to visit in October because the heat and humidity of the summer have passed, and crowds have thinned at tourist attractions. The friendly Vietnamese people will give you devoted attention as you visit this beautiful country.

The natural landscapes and colonial history of Vietnam make it an ideal location to visit. World heritage sites such as the Complex of Huế Monuments, the ancient streets of Hoi An, and Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park should not be missed.

Northern Vietnam is particularly pleasant in October. Trekking through the rice fields in Sapa past water buffalo and misty green mountains is superb in October. A cruise through the towering forest-covered islands in Ha Long Bay is also a delightful October adventure. Called “Ha Long Bay on land”, the limestone mountains of the Ninh Binh area can be seen on a traditional boat rowed through caves and by temples.

For city lovers, the vibrant city of Hanoi with its magnificent lakes and pagodas, outstanding cuisine, and bustling markets is the perfect destination. A visit to the coastal city of Da Nang features the My Khe beach with its emerald clear water and white sand beach that is still wonderful for sunbathing in October. Central highlands city Da Lat is known as the “City of Eternal Spring” for its stunning natural scenery. Lush flower gardens, ancient temples, and Xuan Huong Lake are highlights of Da Lat.

When you travel to Vietnam in October, expect less rain as the dry season starts, especially at the end of the month. Temperatures are moderate making it an excellent time to see the scenic splendor of Vietnam.

India

by Joydeep from The Gypsy Chiring

India is the land of diverse demography, oldest civilizations, rich cultural heritage and the largest democracy in the world. It's that country where if you travel from East to West and from North to South, the diversity magnifies in language, faith, culture, dresses, cuisines and music.

The Himalayas expand from the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir in the North to the northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh. The geographical diversity of India allows you to experience both the high-altitude destinations to the coastal beaches of the Bay of Bengal, the Indian Ocean and the Arabian Sea and the deserts of Rajasthan in Gujarat.

In October, the rainy months of monsoon ends. The season of the perfect weather for travel starts. The rivers, waterfalls, and hills all illuminate with their natural glory. In high-altitude areas like Pahalgam in Kashmir, you can expect snowfall as well. Swim in the blue natural pools of Meghalaya, visit the Kaziranga National Park in Assam to see the endangered one-horned rhinoceros, go hiking in Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh, Arunachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, bask in the coastal beaches of Goa, run on the Rann of Kutch in Gujarat or desert safari in Rajasthan - you get to experience something unique every single time.

For an offbeat cultural experience, you can visit the Ziro Festival of Music in Arunachal Pradesh. Apart from enjoying the independent music scene of India, you will have the opportunity to learn about the Apatani ethnic group.

October is also the month when the Durga Puja, a Hindu festival, is organized around India. For an immersive experience of the festival, visit West Bengal.

As far as the crowds are concerned, the above two festivals are community-based. It is an opportunity to meet and greet the locals while exploring the culture and the place from a local perspective.

Nepal

by Catherine Xu from Nomadicated

Imagine a mountainscape 29,000 feet in the air, where the air is crisp and the views breathtaking on the way to the base camp of Mount Everest. October is the prime season for adventure-filled treks to the Himalayas, but there are many other reasons why October is a great time to visit.

In October, monsoon clouds have fully given way to clear blue skies, revealing incredible views of snow-capped mountains at relatively mild temperatures. It's the perfect time for trekking or taking a helicopter tour in the Himalayan ranges.

The two most popular hikes are Everest Base Camp and Anapurna Base Camp, both lasting around 2 weeks. But many other hikes can be done in a matter of days.

The fall foliage is starting in the scenic Kathmandu Valley, creating a beautiful sight in popular locations like Nagarkot and Bhaktapur. For the adventurous, try bungee jumping at The Last Resort, the tenth tallest jump in the world.

Besides hiking, the once-raging monsoon-swollen rivers have now calmed down enough to provide thrilling kayaking and rafting adventures. Experience some of the world's best rivers, like the Karnali or Trisuli, where you can navigate multiple Class 5 rapids in remote corners of the country. Trips run anywhere from one-day trips to 10-day expeditions.

In the south, take a safari in Chitwan National Park to spot rare wildlife, including tigers and rhinos. Besides the wonderful weather, this time of year sees significantly fewer leeches compared to the monsoon season.

Finally, October in Nepal marks the peak of the festival season. Two major celebrations, Dashain and Diwali (Tihar), occur during this month. Dashain, Nepal's most significant Hindu festival, brings vibrant festivities, family gatherings, and cultural rituals. Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, has dazzling light displays and colorful decorations.

Oceania

Australia

by Victoria from My Australia Trip

Australia is one of the best countries to visit in October for several reasons. First and foremost, October marks the beginning of spring in the southern hemisphere, and Australia bursts into a riot of colors and life during this time. The weather is warm in most regions, making it an ideal time for outdoor adventures and camping.

The Melbourne Festival is one event that makes Australia a must-visit in October. This renowned arts and culture extravaganza showcases the city's creative spirit with a captivating lineup of performances, exhibitions, and cultural events. It's a fantastic opportunity to immerse yourself in Australia's vibrant cultural scene.

In October, the weather varies across the country. In the northern regions, like Queensland and the Great Barrier Reef, you can expect warm and sunny days with temperatures ranging from 20°C to 30°C (68°F to 86°F). Down south, in cities like Sydney and Melbourne, spring is in full bloom, with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F). It's a comfortable time to explore Australia's diverse landscapes and coastal beauty without the scorching summer heat or winter chills.

The crowds in October are generally more manageable than the peak tourist season, which occurs during the Australian summer (December to February). So you can enjoy popular attractions, beaches, and national parks with fewer tourists and shorter queues.

While Australia doesn't experience the typical fall foliage in many northern hemisphere destinations, you'll still witness stunning displays of blossoming flowers and lush green landscapes. It's especially true in places like the Blue Mountains, where the wildflowers are in full bloom, creating a picturesque backdrop for hiking and sightseeing.
